Artist's description:

The nature and wildlife that surrounds elephants fascinates me as shown in the image. This artwork has been depicted based on my knowledge on elephants and their whereabouts in the bush from the trips I had made visiting the game parks.
I sketch out and place the elephant onto the page including all the other nature elements surrounding it with the ferns. I selected the colored pencils I wanted to work with like greens, yellows, browns and grey to suit the subject matter. I put a lot of detail and color shading on the elephants skin which became the most interesting and challenging part of the piece. I incorporated various colors on the elephants skin and face like light grey, captured slight shades of yellow flowing from the natural light and brown combining it into a mixture of color tones. As my work progressed I could see the quality developing on the elephant looking almost graphic like. The pencils formed graphic textures onto the page. Next I colored all the ferns beneath the elephant making it a yellow and bits of orange not too colorful. I colored the sand dirt with a light brown making it subtle so it does not clash with the elephant.

In my last stages I follow up with the background colors making the sky a pale blue with white clouds in between. I next color in the details on the tree and leaves.

My favorite part was capturing the elephants skin adding all the relevant color details and tones.
