"This is what my husband's forefathers and my forefathers used to do. This is all we know." Said Kavita, a kathputli (rajasthani puppet) maker. She manages her family business of selling kathputlis during the day, and does special puppet shows with her husband and other family members at special events during the evening.
Out of many of the traditional arts and modes of entertainment present in India, the Rajasthani Puppet Show is one of the oldest and most interesting art forms of India. The art of making puppets and putting up shows runs in families, but is losing its popularity due to several foreign factors. The art form which was an important part of entertainment in royal courts at one point of time is now out and about in the local streets.
This illustration is the artist's small effort of highlighting the vibrance and beauty of the Kathputlis.
