Artist's description:

The image explores the overlaying of various buildings and architecture from the Islamic era in the city of Cordoba. Through being in Spain I travelled across the country during a six month pilgrimage and recorded many of the precious culture which had contributed to the development of Spanish culture.

The inter-connectivity of culture and what they bring to another culture is important in its evolution of its culture and identity, creating a mix of various styles and influences which contribute to the progression of a culture and its arts.

This image contains imagery from Cordoba - a wonderful place steeped in history. The colours are added to the image in an arbitrary way, exploring the way colour can be used to enhance an image and bring about something creative and different in its construction. There was no real method in its creation, other than responding to each colour as I laid it on the surface in the chosen space. The idea was to explore my own responses to the image, my memories of being in cordoba and seeing how my mind negotiated between the space in which the colour was added and how it reacted to the previously laid colour.

The image is also inspired by the wonderful graffiti I saw in Spain during my travels, displaying the variety of work created by the unsung heros of art that brightens a city and adds life to the wonderful country of Spain.

In all this is an experimental piece exploring place, time, memory and negotiation of space through colour.
