Artist's description:

This is an autobiographical painting.
Not long after I had moved to Workington, I was out with the dog in a local park one evening and saw a group of young lads, probably about 12/13ish getting together and playing rugby league. I remember thinking to myself how refreshing it is to see a group of youngsters playing sport outside in these days of technology where so many young people stay indoors on their computer games, laptops and phones.
I decided to put this into a painting, though the location isn't real, it's purely representational of Workington. I love the rows of 2 bed terraced houses we see round here, so I thought I'd incorporate a little row of those into the piece. The river in the background represents the Solway Firth and the Galloway coast of Scotland. I have painted myself in this piece, along with my dog, Jet and because I wanted to put a couple of cars into the scene, I have even included our car!
The scene itself is of a typical evening with people going home from work, walking the dog etc. The sun has just set on a beautiful late summer's evening. The starlings are gathering on the telephone wires, which is what they do outside my house every night!
