The theme of a woman playing a guitar dates back at least to Johannes Vermeer’s 17th century painting, shortly after the rise of the instrument into the popular mindset. Since then, the theme has been repeated, making it a challenge to create an innovative interpretation of this pairing. Jorgie makes this classic theme her own, exuding emotion and energy. The fusion of a gritty floor and color tinge underscore the mixed mood.

Throughout the millennia, music has been an integral part of many cultures. Identification with song is almost universal. Musical instruments have historically been used in art to represent love in its various forms. The choice of instrument can be associated with aristocracy or working class depending on whether the instrument is associated with a concert hall or a honky tonk. In the same way, musical references can be a unite a diverse audience around an artwork. Musical instruments play a special part in almost all of our memories, taking us back to childhood and pivotal moments in our lives.
