Artist's description:

This is a one of a kind oil portrait of rock icon Jimi Hendrix. This year I was invited to be a featured artist at the Monterey Pop Festival 50th Anniversary celebration in Monterey, CA. In honor of this historical celebration, I had a desire to create a portrait of Jimi Hendrix to put on exhibit at the festival. I wanted to capure Jimi, as he was in 1967. He came to Monterey virtually unknown in America and left the Monterey Pop festival a guitar scorching rock star. I was inspired by a photograph of Jimi at the festival that was taken by photographer Colin Beard. In order to make the painting as original as possible, I altered the photo reference in photoshop by changing the contrast, editing the background and repositioning Jimi. From there I painted Jimi on canvas using my reference. All I remember about this painting was I had to work fast and furious because I was on a tight deadline. I'm very pleased with how he turned out. I like the rich, earth tones and color harmonies that came from my limited color pallette. It's as if the colors demonstrate how Monterey appeared in a 60's timecapsule. I also love the many textures that emerged through the layers of oil paint.
