Artist's description:

For years I've always been fascinated and captivated by Jim Morrison. The Doors have always been one of my favorite rock groups. I love the sound of Jim Morrisons voice, I think he was a great crooner. I also think he was a very attractive man. His articulate yet dark lyrics always created strange, curious and fascinating visuals in my mind. In 2013, I walked into a music store in downtown Monterey, CA. On the wall I saw a framed handwritten poem he wrote and other rare Jim Morrison/Doors memorabilia. I also saw a few academic paintings of Jim that didn't impress me too much and I thought I could possibly do a great painting of Jim. After striking up a freindship with the owner of the shop, I was inspired to do a painting of Jim to put on exhibit at the store. I didn't want to just copy a photo reference, I wanted to make a one of a kind painting that no one had ever seen before. I used a series of black and white photo references and altered them completely because I wanted the final painting to be as original as possible. I also wanted to paint the piece in full color based on my knowledge of how to use color. The process was pretty straight forward, I did the underdrawing with diluted oil paint and it was a slow layer by layer process of oil paint until I achieved the result I wanted. The paint is nice and thick with alot of brush variations and texture.
