This artwork began as a portrait of 'My Mum', then turned into a representation of all things 'My Dad'. Every day of his life Dad has grabbed his guitar, locked himself in the attic and lost himself in a flurry of jazz chords and pure joy. (The colours still pay homage to Mum ... metallic golds and oranges sum up her redheaded flamboyance and love of antiques and jewellery).
My favourite part of the artistic process is the adventure. Starting somewhere defined and ending up in a completely different place to where you intended. It keeps each painting a mystery and adds excitement to the act of making art.
This metallic gold in this artwork produces an awesome effect. It changes with the light, creating a painting that seems to come alive.
