Artwork description:

In my print for August I capture two of my favourite late summer plants, the first almost ripe Rowan berries and Orange Hawkweed, which I know as Fox and Cubs. The colour reflects the last of the summer warmth as we move closer to Autumn.

This Linocut is printed in a single colour, with the impression taken from a single block. It is one of a series of twelve, made month by month over the course of a year, capturing the wild plants and flowers that for me best illustrate that month. The full series documents the passing seasons and is a varied edition, in that I print two versions of each image, one black, and one in a colour that for me, best reflects the time of year.

I use water-based relief inks, blending them to achieve the colours that I like to use and I print onto traditional printmakers paper, either Somerset Satin or a French milled paper. The paper is a soft white with a velvety surface and may have the deckled edge on one side, depending on where it is cut from the full sheet. I use an old Victorian book press to take the impression or rub by hand with a Japanese baren if the print is too big to fit into the press.

Your print will be carefully prepared for shipping, wrapped in acid free tissue paper and rolled inside a sturdy cardboard tube, cushioned with tissue at either end and securely sealed.

Materials used:

Water-based inks, cotton printmaking paper, rubber rollers and an iron press.
