Artist's description:

A watercolour and ink drawing of Capoliveri in Elba (Italy). Capoliveri is a comune on the island of Elba, and part of the Province of Livorno in the Tuscany region, located about 130 kilometres southwest of Florence (Firenze). Elba is the largest remaining stretch of land from the ancient tract that once connected the Italian peninsula to Corsica. The island itself is made up of slices of rocks which once formed part of the ancient Tethyan seafloor.

We spent part of the last summer on Elba and in Tuscany, and this view is reminiscent of the sun, and the gorgeous mediterranean colours. I developed this watercolour painting from my own photographs, and the sketches that I had made on site.

I love the patterns and configurations in little Italian towns, made by closely built houses and their terracotta tiled roofs. The sun was shining bright, and the sky was clear blue, and the light played on the roofs with their pink and brown colours. The walls are yellow and ochre, and the whole view makes me yearn for the fresh air, the delicious food, and the friendly people. There is something primitive and earthy about the architecture itself.

This is made with best quality winsor and newton watercolours and permanent fineliners, on 200 gsm heavyweight fine-grain, acid-free watercolour paper.

It comes unframed, but if you would like a mount or a frame added, please do contact me for prices. I take great pride in wrapping my artwork with tissue paper and hard mount, so that it is delivered to you safely, and can also gift-wrap this if you would like it sent directly as a present.
