The title of this painting comes from the English translation of Glashedy - the name of the uninhabited island that sits about a mile into the Atlantic, off the Inishowen coast of Donegal.
It is the sheep that draws you into the scene. The original sketch had the sheep munching away at the grass but I eventually settled on her looking up as if she has been interrupted, thereby initially engaging the viewer before the eye wonders to the horizon before taking in the expanse of sky. The painting of the sky aims to convey a sense of movement, illustrating the ever changing weather and light.
