Artist's description:

I was always fascinated by the shape and colour of this beautiful flower.
It is my first attempt to portray the flower and a study for a bigger work on canvas...
Some reserch and meaning behind the name of one of my favourite flowers:
Iris was the personification of the rainbow in Greek mythology, as well as messenger of the gods along with Hermes. She was also known as the goddess of the sea and the sky. She was the daughter of Thaumas and Electra, sister to Arke, Aello, Celaeno and Ocypete.
Specific flower colors attach further meanings to the pretty blooms. Purple iris brings a message of wisdom and compliments, while a bouquet of blue iris blossoms speak of hope and faith. When passion is the iris definition you wish to convey, send yellow blooms....
