Artist's description:

This work is part of my Introspective Mind Exhibition, an interactive exhibition of monotype prints revolving around the theme of introspection. The works include a range of both representational and non-representational subject matter.

These prints were made while practicing mindfulness meditation, used to increase awareness of one's experience from moment to moment. I used automatistic mark-making while practicing this meditation. Developed by Surrealism artists like Andre Masson, automatism is a method of mark-making in which the artist works while not thinking about anything in particular in an effort to reveal the subconscious or unconscious.

Viewers were instructed to record their reactions and readings of the works at a website set up specifically for the exhibition. The monotypes were given non-descript titles to keep from influencing the viewers' readings of the works.

Introspective Mind Monotype G hangs in a frame I constructed. The frame is wood painted black with plexiglass. The print is mounted to archival foam board, and appears to float within the frame.
