I often walk in the woods behind my house. Sometimes there's a soft mist which changes the view, turning the foreground trees into shadowy silhouettes, and those further away into layers of lighter and lighter coloured trees. Walking into that feels magical.
I made this print by drawing the image on to a piece of blue vinyl then carving it with lino-cutting and wood-engraving tools. This is what creates the distinctive style - which is somewhere between a linocut and a wood engraving. I've included a photo of the main block on this page.
This print was made with two blocks. The second is carved to leave just the background, light grey trees, and the print is made by inking each block and printing them one on top of the other on the same piece of paper.
It is printed on Somerset 250gsm printmaking paper using Calico safe wash lightfast inks.
