Minimalist artwork made with Japanese sumi ink
In an attempt to explore all of the creative possibilities of sumi, I've made some experiments with cold water in order to create a series of shapes which I eventually selected and cropped. Throughout this process, I let my subconscious work for me to discover a 'story' behind each picture.
In my mind, these close-ups represent various characters from the Divine Comedy (La Divina Commedia), one of the world’s great works of literature. The poem describes Dante's travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise or Heaven.
