Artist's description:

As with most of my artwork that is titled, the title comes from HOW the painting was created. This painting was was made solely in the dark.

The idea behind this series came from the frustration of a previous painting "not looking right" even though it was abstract. I decided I needed to truly let go and not get so caught up in my head.

Since I find that my creativity usually peaks at night, I decided to use the night and keep the lights off in my studio. In the dark, I switched my colors around because I did not want memory to allow me too now which color I was using.

Paint was applied by various methods - brush, palette knife, hand, thrown, or straight from the tube to the point of exhaustion.

The painting was not looked at until morning, at that point it was basically dry. The painting represents a total trust in instinct and reflects the artwork taking on a life of its own.

I painted a number of other works this way and what I've found ironic is that something bright, expressive, and positive came from total darkness.

The edges are painted black (this was done in the daytime) and can be hung as is.
