Original artwork description:

I painted this piece after I returned from a medical issue at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. If you've ever been there then you know what I mean. Each floor of the clinic has a different marble from all over the world. The floor I was on had the most interesting blue marble covering counter tops and walls. That is what started the idea. When you look at the painting you see the central figure of a woman under water. She symbolizes me and all the patients at Mayo. We are drowning in pain or medical woes. The fish swimming around her symbolize the healing that we are there for (fish have always been a symbol of spirituality - which the Mayo incorporates in it's healing processes). Finally if you notice the woman holds a planet in her hands that is shaped like the yin-yang symbol - symbolizing the openness to alternative forms of healing and the fact that the planet is on fire it also symbolizes the need for all patients to find balance in their lives.
