This is the second painting created after I returned from a medical issue at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. If you've ever been there then you know what I mean. Each floor of the clinic has a different marble from all over the world. The floor I was on had the most interesting blue marble covering counter tops and walls. That is what started the idea. When you look at the painting you see the central figure of a woman on the right side, dressed in black. She symbolizes the illnesses that all of us patients were suffering from. The sharks swimming around the bird cage symbolize the attacking illnesses. Inside the cage you'll see a figure in a meditative pose. He represents the healing self with the yin-yang symbol behind him. Also the Bird of Paradise flower is wrapped around the cage and perched on the other side of the cage is the actual Bird of Paradise. The door of the cage is open but we (the patients) have no fear that the sharks will get in. The woman figure has a look of frustration on her face because she has failed again.
