Artist's description:

I stayed in a typical Mexican holiday village where all the apartments surrounded the pool. Each morning a young girl set up her stall by the pool, selling a mixture of jewellery, swim suits, suntan lotion etc. All the buildings were painted deep yellow. The Blue umbrellas were all around the pool. I painted sketches of the umbrellas and the market stall and took several photographs. Then compiled the design. The MDF board was prepared with several coats of white gesso on all surfaces and I tinted the board with burnt umber. Once this was dry I painted the picture using Oil paints and oil mediums. I happy with the outcome it imbues the sun, heat and atmosphere of that place and time.

gesso, oil paint and mediums
