Artist's description:

The mannequins represent the idea of conformity, perfectly proportioned, just alike, rather cold, grey and lifeless. As we abandon who we are in favor of conforming to that which society wants us to be from the time we are very young, we forget who we really are and dismiss that as unworthy, and we become confused. The woman in the painting is conforming, or turning grey and cold, yet is still holding on to the little bit of true life she has, as she wavers between the two worlds.
