Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

The Ibn Tulun Mosque was built in the ninth century by Sultan Ibn Tulun, the founder of the Tulunid dynasty. Over a period of a thousand years Cairo has produced Islamic architecture of outstanding beauty - something that the West has largely ignored. I have made it my purpose to paint Cairo's wonderful architecture and write a book about it.
