Artist's description:

A piece using the principles of the Marouflage technique (mounting a flexible surface onto a more rigid support, originally linen canvas onto plaster, but in this case paper onto a canvas).

This painting is one of the early pieces in a series of works exploring ideas around landscape painting as a metaphor for life. The paintings are created on paper, cut, torn, joined, patched, repaired, over worked - and finally coated with varnish to 'gloss over the damage' and hold it all together - a bit like most of us are. They work initially as an interesting abstract landscape but on closer inspection are full of small details and provide a space for contemplation.
