The sky is a huge source of inspiration for me. Whether it's the northern lights, the night sky dotted with hundreds and thousands of stars, the milky way or a spectacular sunrise or sunset, I don't think I'll ever tire of wanting to interpret its many wonders in my paintings.
This is a miniature sky inspired by recent clear nights where we could clearly see the milky way and I developed a crick in my neck staring up in wonder.
I wanted to convey the idea of just how massive the skies are this far north where there is very little light pollution by having it dominate the tiny canvas with a small cottage to put into context just how inconsequential we are in the scheme of things!
As I was painting the cottage and land, I thought how all the colours and the way I'd added the paint looked like those cake decorations 'hundreds and thousands' and it seemed like an appropriate title what with the hundreds and thousands of stars!
The small canvas is framed in a deep wooden box frame which is a natural pine. You can leave it as it is or stain/paint it if you prefer.
