Artist's description:

Set of 4 kiln-formed glass animal ‘trophies’ on salvaged wood with graffiti-style imagery & found objects.

Our distance from nature is already a cliché, city dwellers often have no relationship with the animals that live right under their noses. It is the survival of the fittest and the growth of our cities that has led wildlife gradually integrate in our everyday lives, making the parks, gardens and streets their homes. It is certainly a place where wildlife and human life can coexist with interesting results, helping us to remember that we are just one species amongst many, even in the concrete jungle where most of us make our home and sometimes we are as humans insignificant and that’s where Humans Need Not Apply…

The spontaneous play involved in attempting to incorporate disparate materials into a unified whole presented me with a unique challenge, the piece slowly evolved from each stage as materials had to be collected and discovered. I particular like the contrast of glass on wood, juxtaposing nature and the urban environment. These 3D pieces hang on the wall like any conventional painting, however unlike a painting, I used the method of slumping glass to create pieces with interesting depth dimensions.

Materials used:

kiln-formed glass, salvaged wood, spray paint, found objects
