Artist's description:

Part of a new ‘Redemption Series’, originally inspired by the music of Julia Grey. The works in this series are about the different ways in which we can be tied to things and how we can be redeemed or take repossession of ourselves. Of course, we may be tied as part of an enslavement but we can also willingly tie ourselves to something, like another person in marriage, for example. When tied, does this allow us to be vulnerable in the security of the bind or vulnerable through fear? A tie can be happy/enriching/exciting or simply unhealthy, especially in relationship to ourselves and others, even though we may want to be set free, to let go or to just… give up. Each painting in the series allows the viewer to decide on the type of tie present (or not) and therefore hangs in an ambiguity like the ties themselves.
