The female nude in nature has been been a favorite theme of painters, illustrators, and photographers throughout the history of art. Hope is at home in this familiar locality, enjoying the cool spring runoff of the river and the warm sunshine. The gentle waterfalls glistens and the turbulence sparkles in the afternoon light. There is a softness to the natural backdrop that draws attention to the primary subject. Light wraps around the curves of her shoulder and raised thigh. Softer shades contour the details of her torso.
She is at rest, but there is a tension to her position, braced against the wet rocks, her gaze fixated on something nearby but out of our view. There is a casual ease to her expression and body language, a feeling of being at play and prepared for more.
Nude in the Landscape
The timelessness of the landscape and sensuality combin in homage to the tradition of Venus in the wilderness. The parallels between the body and the land are an observable banquet of organic texture, sweeping lines, and visual power of the sky.
False color technique
Using the technique of false color, I produce a restrained color palette. The method is inspired by my training in oil painting, and pays homage to the classic technique of hand-colored photography. Color is applied selectively to give a greater illusion of depth as well as evoke an emotional response.

About the artist
A K Nicholas is a visual artist specializing in figure (fine art nudes) photography. An unapologetic celebration of the female form, these images invite the viewer to explore a dreamlike world.
