Original artwork description
I started working on the CS 1.9.89 series around 2014, when, walking down the streets of Bucharest, I noticed a building with bullet holes left over from the 1989 revolution. Somehow, my observation coincided with a time when more and more people were nostalgically looking back at the pre-1989 era through a positive lens. I created this series of works to remind people of that gray, dark chapter in our history and how hard it was for us as Romanians to break free from a world that seemed frozen in time and eternal. I also made these paintings for young people who were too young in 1989 or born after 1990, so they know their world was not always as they know it today.
