Artist's description:

I thought long about this painting. Though not about how, or why I painted it, so much as to what it reminded me of. I had seen this in many guises; dreams and memories of overlong expeditions, not getting home before darkness.

Driving in the cold fens of Norfolk is a particular memory. It is dusk and birds have gone to roost. It is winter and moving towards spring, and what might just be beyond the corner, and what may lay ahead? The hellos and the goodbyes in life. Am I looking back at a time, or looking towards it?
