Artist's description:

This is one of the paintings in my series of historical Dutch tulips. The Wapen van Leiden tulip was introduced in Holland in 1750.

Supplied by the Hortus Bulborum foundation in Holland which carefully propagates heritage tulips, I planted the bulb in my garden in October 2017. I painted the tulip as soon as it flowered in early May 2018.

The flower is crown-shaped and a beautiful crimson on an ivory background. The pointy petals are quite different from today's more rounded tulips.

The tulip is painted on wood using classical technique common in 17th Century Holland. The frame is matt black lacquered wood.

This painting would look great in a living room, bedroom, library or hallway. It can be paired with my other historical tulip paintings (see picture & my other listings).

Materials used:

oil paint, wood
