This print is part of a series capturing Hawaiʻi Island’s great, sacred mountain, as seen from its surrounding human and animal communities. I was inspired to create “Thirty-Six Views of Mauna Kea” from Hiroshige’s “Thirty-Six Views of Fuji (1859),”. Within meditations of a sacred mountain in the piko (belly button or center) of Hawai‘i Island, my personal history with Hilo, and capturing views of communities surrounding Mauna Kea, I hope audiences will see the spiritual and empathetic connections to landscapes and views that live in our deepest memories.
Prints are digitally printed on Japanese laminated shoji paper using solvent inks. Traditional shoji paper is captured inside plastic film, with visible mulberry fibers which are part of the aesthetic of the artwork. Inks used are UV protected, lightfast and the laminated shoji paper is moisture-resistant and acid-free.
Each printed is signed on the front and comes with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. Limited edition of 10 each.
