A 6 colour reduction linocut capturing the glory of the Scottish moutains and loch with a Highland Cow, on an unusually bright clear day in Scotland. It is reminiscent of the gorgeous colours of the Scottish landscape with its purples and greens, and the way that a Highland Cow stands out with its distinctive orange fur.
A reduction print is a relief print formed by cutting away layers of lino, as each colour layer is consecutively built up, hence it being a reductive method. This means that nothing (or not much) of the design is left once the prints are all completed. Hence, the number of prints are limited, and each is hand printed. Variations can occur between them, making each one truly original. Also, the layering gives each print an unique texture which distinguishes the handmade prints from reproductions.
This work is printed with water-based, light-fast inks on Somerset Satin paper and has a beautiful matt finish. It is numbered, titled and signed by the artist at the bottom.
This is a linocut where all the colours have been printed rather than painted with watercolours, and so makes for a smoother finish and the colours are steadfast.
Image size is 9.5 inches x 7.5 inches.
