We have a lovely little fellow who visits our garden frequently. This willie wagtail was an inspiration for a series of three mixed media pieces.
Hidden Nest II depicts a willie wagtail painted using acrylic paint that was applied with a silicon brush onto tissue paper. I then fixed the tissue paper onto a small canvas. I hand blanket stitched around the canvas edges and free form crocheted with cotton thread. When I started the free form crochet, I didn't have a pattern in mind. However, the shape of a bird's head started to form so I focused on making that shape more prominent.
I decided to work on a small scale as to reflect the petite bird that bounds and flys around our garden.
