Artist's description:

Hermila Galindo Acosta (also known as Hermila Galindo de Topete) (1886-1954) was a Mexican feminist and a writer. Oil over encasutic, 24" x 24", $1,800 She was an early supporter of many radical feminist issues, primarily sex education in schools, women's suffrage, and divorce. She was one of the first feminists to state the Catholicism in Mexico was thwarting feminist efforts and she was the first woman to run for elected office in Mexico.

She was definitely ahead of her time and very brave to stand up for women's rights. Even now, she might find resistance.

This is the last painting I made in this series. There are many more important women who belong in this list, but I was ready to move on. Researching this project was fascinating for me and certainly educated me about the important contributions women have made to society.

Materials used:

encaustic wax, oil paint
