A big wave pounds against shoreline rocks. This was initially sketched at the shore of Long Island Sound on a blustery fall day. I watched the waves break, to learn how the water moved around the rocks, until my fingers were numb with cold. Tricky to do, because the water won't stand still for you while you draw. When I couldn't deal with the cold any longer, I fled home to the warmth of my studio, and painted this canvas from my sketched notes.
