I live in a beautiful part of Thailand, so my art tells vivid and thought-provoking stories of my life, my land, and its people.
My art tells vivid, interesting and thought-provoking stories of my life, the land and its people in the beautiful part of Thailand where I live, here I used my Mom’s face as I remember it.
I’m in the process of painting a series of paintings for my Memories of Thailand Collection and adding to it all the time. A lot of the paintings go back to my early childhood when I worked in the rice fields and a little later driving a pick up truck round the villages in my area selling vegetables. later in life touring round Thailand which gave me lots of ideas to work on meeting some wonderful people.
This painting depicts a Thai lady all dress and ready to work in the rice fields as you can see everywhere apart from the face is covered. The heat in those rice fields is intense, no shade and often not a breath of wind. Hard backbreaking work that thankfully is more often then not done by machine, but people still have to go with the machine.
You can see she is carrying a heavy load and on her way to work, I think you can see in her face which is sad but beautiful she would rather be going somewhere else then to a rice field.
I sit at a clean canvas, my imagination, oils, brushes, knife and fingers ready to start work, I have an idea, I start to paint, my head is telling my hands what to do, but sometimes my head changes so I delete and start again and so it goes until I’m happy with my work, then sometimes I use a palette knife to cover the whole canvas in random strokes and I see something like a photo an image and follow my feelings.
I get a lot of my inspiration from three artist; Claude Monet with his use of colour, his expressiveness, detail and the softness of his beautiful paintings, Vincent van Gogh with his bold use of colour his expressiveness, and I like to think I’m a little impulsive like him, and Lowry unbelievable he produced the work he did just using five colours.
My art tells stories, not always happy and joyful, not always bright and full of light,
but always full of my feelings, vivid, interesting and thought-provoking. I always try to put something of myself in my paintings; in the form, the colours, the brush stokes, my feelings, my joy, sometimes my darkness but I hope mostly joy and happiness.
