Hayami it's an uncommon Japanese women's name means rare beauty. Japan is one of my obsessions, and recreating my very own versions of Geishas is a fulfilling sensation. The headgear is a version I fancied from Ukiyo-E paintings, mainly from Hokusai, the master of masters. The hair pins are pure imagination, where I have used also the same silk used for the kimono. This purple silk was bought in the fabric market in central Jakarta and I particularly like due to the 2 distinctive colours on it.
The face is made out of a mould, and the shoulders is made from a mould made directly with the finished face. A very complicated technique I am not intending to pursue...The body is painted with a underlying purple stripes, a contrast with the purely white face to balance the composition (Wabi-Sabi aligned).
metal, epoxy, silk
