Artwork description:

A large Limited Edition colour linocut of Hampton Court Palace in London in summer - a Tudor palace closely associated with King Henry VIII.

This is a large linocut made using several carved blocks of lino, one for each colour. The ink is transferred to the paper by rubbing the back with a baren and a wooden spoon. (Takes a while!).

The actual print is 28cm high and 39cm wide (roughly A3 - so pretty big) and sold in a mount which brings the overall size to 40cm by 50cm - which is a common size and easy to frame.

This is a variable edition of 50, and, as always with linocuts, each print will vary slightly since they are produced by hand. Each print is numbered, titled and signed on the front by me, the artist.

The first image is from a scan of the actual print for sale, as are the close-ups. Other photos show how the print looks in its mount and how it looks in a frame - hopefully giving you an idea of scale.

The linocut is printed on acid-free paper, using oil-based inks.

Hampton Court Palace sits beside the River Thames west of London.

Although much of the Tudor palace was destroyed and rebuilt to later tastes, enough remains to give us a good idea of what the other lost Tudor royal palaces must have been like at Richmond, Greenwich and Whitehall. It's particularly fun to imagine someone on horseback riding through that gatehouse with an urgent message for the King.

Please note international orders will be posted without a mount and rolled in a tube with acid-free tissue.

Materials used:

oil-based printing inks, colour, lino
