Artist's description:

This is a two layered drawing. There is a drawing in pencil of a street in Halling Kent UK based on a photograph of that street taken in 1910.
Over that there is a stitched drawing on transparent silk based on a photograph of the same street taken on 2016.
This gives us the chance to compare and contrast the differences in the street over 100 years ago and now. Halling in 1910 was a busy village in the heart of the cement making industry of the Medway Valley. Today in 2016 the cement industry is gone, the chimneys we see in the background have gone, but the houses built for the cement workers, remain.
The size of this piece is A2: 60x42x2cms, the measurements given below include the loose threads dangling down as seen in the photograph.

Materials used:

white cotton, pencil, silk organza, black thread

Halling 1910-2016 (2016)
