Artist's description:

This is one of a series of paintings inspired by an Edwardian apothecary's box I found in a local flea market. The colours of the base ingredients for medicines and tinctures reminded me of the pigments used in artists' paints. It also set me to thinking about cures and remedies: what they are used for, how they are used, and how sometimes the cure becomes a comfort, something to indulge in, and resist letting go of. The backgrounds are deliberately dark, enveloping the figure as a representation of that indulgence. Pages from an old pamphlet of traditional Chinese medicines are collaged into the work.

The paintings in this series are each made on 638gsm (300lb) Saunders Waterford watercolour not surface paper and are sold unmounted and unframed.

While I have made every effort to ensure the photographs represent the true colours in the paintings I cannot guarantee an exact match. The colours will also display differently depending on the type of screen you are viewing them on.
