Artist's description:

A tall and vibrant piece made from chunky paperclay. It reaches up, one form growing from another. Wonderful texture and colours.

My new series Growing is inspired by the idea of upward growth; forms which have a feeling of reaching up. Linked in there with some of the pieces is a memory of bracket fungus growing on trees. The clay is rough and groggy and the colours drawn from natural things like leaves and mushrooms. Sometimes I use a slip (liquid clay) made from my porcelain clay to give a white surface.

Materials used:

Clay, oxides, body stains, glazes

Growing tall (16.1) (2010)
