Artist's description:

This is a self-portrait, where unlike my other self-portrait 'Sports Bra' I've made an effort to look presentable - with makeup on and a green Kylie Jenner style wig.

I'm really interested in female expressions of beauty standards. Why do we choose to present the way we do as individuals, and what level of glam is acceptable versus 'too much'? And who decides? I'm unashamedly femme and I lean in to fakery - fake nails, fake hair, fake lashes, fake tan - partly because I enjoy it and partly as a way of pushing against traditional gender expectations. Women are supposed to look nice, but we're not supposed to show it - 'when you're painting a masterpiece, no-one wants to see the brush strokes'. It becomes a burden of unrealistic expectations, and the joy of creativity from dressing up and painting a face becomes lost.
