This imposing wall panel was the centre piece for the Christmas window at the Blue Dog Gallery in Brighton. Sadly, the gallery is now defunct due to the owner having a very serious health condition.
I wanted to create something that was festive, yet not your typical Christmas fare and came up with the Green Man. He is representative of several things here, change, the death of the old year and the dawn of the new, fecund with life. His wide smile, jovial face and twinkling, impudent eyes are full of the fun, excitement and mischief we associate with Yuletide.
He was a labour of love, taking 31 days to complete, working very long hours every day. That doesn't include the preliminary sketches. However, the results were worth it. Made from a selection of coloured mirror and glass, glued to MDF, he is rather resplendent, a feast for the eyes.
MDF. Glass, Mirror, solvent free glue, grout.
