Artist's description:

This is one of those scenes in nature that you come across and can't help but take a seat and undertake some sort of introspection.

For me I wondered what it would have been like to come here 100 years ago, no paths or trails, no chance of help if something goes wrong. Completely cut off from the world, alone with nature in a place untouched by humans and possibly setting foot where no one had ever been before.

To get to this point was hard enough today, the initial path had been through a peaceful forest that gave no hint of the struggle that was to come. The forest ended on an open plain, no cover just the sun beating down and reflecting up off the scree. And the wind!! The howling gale that funnelled down from those mountains straight into your face, the only occasion that I've put full head gear and hood on for protection when it wasn't raining. But what a view.

Do you strive on, walk to the glacier and on up into the mountains? We should all stop and take in the grandeur, before it's gone.

Such a shame that glaciers will be lost for future generations. 100 years ago, this glacier must have swept all the way down through the middle of this image, now the moraine lake at the tongue of the glacier gets bigger each year.
