Artist's description:

"Golden Discordance" is based upon rock falls and storm damage along the South-west Coast path, near my home in Torbay, Devon. As we look over the edge, past the newly exposed rock face, the sunlight is bouncing off the tumbled rocks as they sit crumbled in the glistening sea... A destructive sight to some, a wonder of nature to others - a difference of opinion, a discordance.

This image is the first in my series of highly textural abstract landscapes.

Created with layers of plaster and pigments reflecting the colours of the natural rocks. Acrylic paints and glazes have been added to emphasise the shapes and shadows, with gold leaf to add the sparkle of the sunlight.

Materials used:

Plaster, acrylic paint, pigments, gold metal leaf, 24ct gold leaf
