This was inspired from a photograph of a section of a tree. The lines and knots of the wood formed a shape that reminded me of water flowing. I decided to extend this idea and put fish in where the knots were. I first did a relief under painting using gesso and then added water colour pencil as a painting medium and to draw the lines. The thickness of the under painting could then be used a means of bringing out highlights using abrasion. Added highlights were made using silver and gold paper to give the appearance of light shimmering in the water and reflecting off the fish.
