Watercolour, acrylic ink, gouache and pastel, on Saunders Waterford watercolour paper. The painting goes right to the edge of the paper which has a ragged edge, so the painting could be float mounted in a box frame for a contemporary look, if desired.
This painting was inspired by a trip to Yosemite valley this summer. I watched the kids climbing on these huge rocks and wanted to capture that feeling of conquering the world when you are climbing up to the top of something high. The tree trunks really were that colour too1
I am interested in how modern day kids, especially city kids like my own, experience and interact with the natural environment. I wonder how important the environment will become in their future lives, and the lives of their own children.
