Last year I planted squashes and courgettes but the labels all got mixed up. One (a monster, a triffid) grew five metres in each direction, up into a tree, and had HUGE leaves.
I was fascinated by the colour, texture and shape of the leaves and cast one in damp paper pulp. So the (suitably large) painting is made in sections, with the leaf plus flowers, names and cultivation notes. This squash deserved documenting!
I've tried to convey the subtle colouring of the plant but set it against a dramatic dark textured background - it was such a theatrical plant.
