An elderly gentleman, distinguished, looking as well groomed as his home, answered my knock. I'm standing on his front porch, feeling awkward. Does he mind if I take a picture, do some sketches from the road, of his home in this bucolic setting? He smiles shyly but his eyes glow with pride. No, he doesn't mind at all. Could I please just show him my sketches when I'm done? I let out a silent sigh of relief and hope my grateful smile conveys to him the joy it brings me to apply my skills and creativity to such an inspiring place.

Although his home is less than a few hours from mine, I haven't driven by it to show him the culmination of my efforts: Getting Out of Town. We have several inches of snow in our yard; I'm certain he has several feet of powder. I wonder if he is snowed in, or if he is a snowbird-- fleeing to more temperate climes in winter. Either way, I hope we meet again.
