With so much geopolitical issues currently in the news we are constantly bombarded by horrific images of displacement and suffering. The political systems around the world seem unable to agree a solution to these human tragedies and it evokes many strong feelings in any person who has a sense of humanity.
For me these constant images reminds me of families I know and are part of who fled the Nazis in WW2, and how Great Britain took in 10,000 Jewish children. Many of the families and generations of those families would not be around today if it was not for that human hand of help. This painting is a response to this multi layered, geopolitical, human tragedy that I feel angry, upset, and desperate about. The use of gloss paint helps bring alive the lines of connection that run from one country and culture to another. Our interconnectedness.
