My first painting from a photograph. I took this picture at a school in downtown Milwaukie, OR. This door was down under a staircase to the main entrance. I found I kept staring at that door, wondering where it leads. A non descript green door.
As I painted this, I used a watercolor technique with acrylic paint. I found it a challenge to not take liberties, to not add anything that wasn't in the photograph. In the end, I eliminated a vent grid and added some sparse branches.
